The Chora of Mykonos is where the heart of the island beats fast...Thousands of visitors every year experience moments of joy in a heavenly settlement with picturesque alleys and this is where they will return again and again in order to witness the most cosmopolitan way of living on a Greek island. What a contrast indeed! A traditional setting in perfect harmony with absolute glamour and as a plus…celebrity spotting at every point of orientation!

The location:  The main town is the first thing we lay eyes upon, as soon as our boat reaches the port. The whitewashed settlement spreads in front of our eyes and the imposing windmills put us directly in the mood for a superb Cycladic vacation ahead of us! This is where most visitors will show up for their morning coffee in style, for a boutique shopping spree but also for early evening cocktails and crazy bar-hopping in the numerous hot spots. In other words, the Chora of Mykonos is an around-the-clock melting pot that calls you to meander endlessly into its labyrinth of picturesque alleys. In return, it will satisfy you with its incredible atmosphere, with its beautiful whitewashed housing and the cute yards full of blossoming pots of flowers which altogether create a scenery for the perfect photo shoot!

The points of interest: Visit the famous windmills for an amazing sunset. Head to the southeast part of Chora where the complex of Kato Mili are located and which date back to the early 20th century. Seven out of a total of ten windmills are preserved in splendid condition. Equally appealing may be a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos cherishing significant findings from the island’s past.
Even if you may not be religious you could visit the church of Panayia Paraportiani and admire its architecture. In your walks within Chora you are bound to come across the island’s trademark -Petros the pelican- which has been the island’s mascot since 1958! For a first round of cocktails, approach the famous neighborhood called Small Venice [Mikri Venetia], select one of the bars in a row and indulge in a cocktails session sipping slowly as you watch the orangey-red sunset dip into the blue. If you would like to experience the magic of the open roof cinema, then Cine Manto will enchant you as you watch a movie with the stars above you!

The shopping: Your holiday in Mykonos will be incomplete if you don’t spend at least one of your evenings strolling up and down the stone-paved main street of Matoyiania in Chora, where you will be presented with hundreds of clothes stores, designer boutiques and classy jewelry outlets. Don’t be surprised if you constantly bump into celebrities. All of the alleyways lead to Matoyiannia - the Mecca of shopping in the Greek islands! The nightlife: Mykonos Town by night…and the fun never seizes! The Chora is a very pleasant destination from dusk till dawn but in the night time its charm becomes unsurpassable! It is a fact that only very few places in Greece can match its vibrant nightlife. When the shops close at around 2 am, the party zone opens. Mykonos Town is where most of the nightlife hot spots are situated. Apart from a plethora of cafes, bars, nightclubs, beach bars and restaurants you will also find out that the intensity varies depending on what you actually consider to be your type of fun and partying. Whichever the case may be, after sunset the Chora’s population gradually increases until it reaches its maximum peak. The only certainty is that in the main town of Mykonos you will experience the party feeling in its hippest manifestation!
