The “island of the winds” is our choice this year and one of the most important things that we kept in mind for selecting Mykonos, is certainly its beaches…With over 30 stunning beaches at our disposal, we wish to know in advance which ones are the top ones and why we should certainly include them in our itineraries. For that reason alone, we suggest to you the top 10 options for the perfect dive!
In broad terms, the southern side of Mykonos boasts the trendiest selection and those beaches get very busy at the peak of the season. At the same time, they are the most organised, almost all of them are sandy ones and offer a vast range of water sports, beach bars and restaurants. Beaches on the northern coast are less organized and ideal for calmer swims in more natural surroundings. All tastes are covered to maximum and even the air on the island blows with a different flair!
Palladium Boutique Hotel is located at walking distance from the two most cosmopolitan beaches of the island: Platys Gialos beach and Psarou beach. Platys Gialos is famous for its golden sand and for the Mykonos Water Sports center offering a wide variety of activities: jetski, banana, wakeboard, waterski, tube sofa and canoe among many other making it also ideal for families alongside the younger crowds. Psarou beach is -without the merest doubt- one of the most beautiful on the island. Turquoise waters, golden sand and with the tremendous advantage of being protected by the northern strong winds of the Cyclades. Possibly the trendiest beach of the island too, where celebrity spotting is a habit! There is also a diving school.
Kalo Livadi beach is a large sandy stretch with tranquil, iridescent blue waters. Fully organized with all of the amenities you may need and countless restaurants. In the peak of the summer, a reservation for a sun bed at least a day in advance is advisable. It is packed with beach bars for all day partying but also offers sport activities for those preferring to stay away from drinking as early as noon...!
Elia Beach is the longest sandy beach on Μykonos and the most organized. If you can’t stand the strong and moody Cycladic winds then it is best if you select it on a calm day. Absolutely adorable setting with incredible turquoise waters, plethora of water sport activities that need a windy weather - parasailing and windsurfing - plus restaurants for all tastes.
Aghios Ioannis beach will seem as a calm option although located at the popular south-western coast. Stunning scenery, thin sand and blue waters with views to the island of Delos opposite. Its relatively small size attracts the crowds less, so a tranquil swim and peace of mind are guaranteed.
Super Paradise beach and Paradise beach address the party lovers that have come to the island exactly for this purpose and possibly nothing further than that! They both cherish golden sand, located one next to the other and magnetize clubbers and semi-nudists. This is where the most famous club ‘Cavo Paradiso’ is situated which hosts major parties and international dj sets.
Moving further towards the northern side of the island you will discover the less organized beaches which, nonetheless, guarantee superbly beautiful sceneries and tranquility. Fokos beach is a secluded small paradise very different from the other beaches of the island. Consider it as the perfect alternative for endless hours of relaxation and for nudism, if you are a fan of that. One of the most hidden beaches that are worthy to discover is Kapari beach. Adorable setting, offering only a few, if no facilities at all. Ideal for your outmost relaxation and the cleanest waters on the island.
