The Southern Beaches of Mykonos

Mykonos, as would be expected has some of the most beautiful beaches that you could ever imagine and each one as diverse as the other. Some of them are ideal for water sports and parties, while others are perfect for a quiet time of relaxation. The one thing that they have in common is that time stands still and endless hours spent on a Mykonos beach is quite a memorable experience.
Sun-drenched beaches can be found all along the coastlines of Mykonos, the most popular on the southern part of the island. These picturesque bays and sandy beaches are easily accessible from Mykonos town and there are boat excursions to almost every corner of the island.PSAROU
The idyllic beach of Psarou with its clear blue calm waters and golden sand is enveloped by spectacular rocky hillsides protecting it from north winds. It is popular for water sports as there is a diving school offering scuba and deep-sea lessons and the beach also attracts its fair share of celebrities from Greece and abroad. Psarou beach is located just a short distance from Platys Gialos beach and can be reached by bus from Mykonos town, 5 km away.

One of Mykonos’s favorite family oriented beaches, the Platys Gialos located next to the Palladium Boutique Hotel, is perfect for youngsters to enjoy hours of fun. The shallow shoreline means that families can leave their children to play safely in the waters and there are several playgrounds and swimming pools too.  The beach is a hive of activity with a wide range of water sports and exciting activities to take part in, including water skiing, parasailing and banana boat rides.
Platys Gialos beach has a number of hotels and restaurants along its shoreline, so this beach destination is perfect for socializing and watching Greek dancing in the evenings. It’s also Just a fifteen minute bus ride from the town and easily accessible for other nearby beaches either on foot or by taking a small fishing boat.

Experience the lively beach life at the immensely popular Paraga beach. There are an array of family owned restaurants and some trendy beach bars playing music all day long. The shallow shoreline leads out to rocks and there are stunning views from the camping facilities which lead out to the rocky headline too. The Paraga beach is an easy walk to other local beaches, including Agia Anna, a small picturesque cove and Platys Gialos.
One of the most renowned beaches in the world for partying all day long and through the night, the Paradise beach is located next to Super Paradise beach also famous for its lively atmosphere. It is always buzzing with activity and excitement, and is a favorite spot for younger beachgoers who can dance on the bars and party on the sandy shoreline.
There is plenty for everyone to do as well. Besides pitching a tent under the trees, all  along the sandy beach there are restaurants, cafes, a pool dance club, scuba diving centre, jet skis, skiing, snorkeling and a host of other activities including horse-riding and beach volley. A regular boat service leaves from Platys Gialos to take visitors to the golden beach or it can be easily reached by bus from Mykonos town.
Located on the southwest tip of Mykonos Island, the sandy beach of Ornos, just 3 km from the town is a perfect place for families. The sheltered bay, which was once a thriving fishing port, is ideal for relaxation or water sports and the sloping beach leading into the clear shallow waters makes it easy for young children to play and swim safely. The small village of Ornos has supermarkets, restaurants, a butcher and bakery all close at hand and boat trips from the quaint island bay take visitors to other parts of Mykonos.
