Mykonos Cultural Heritage is as Rich as its Beauty

Mykonos is an island that never stops surprising its guests. There significant archaeological sites, which draw archaeologists and scientists attention. Their aim is to bring to light all these inestimable findings and exhibit them in the Archaeological Museum. The visitor can admire a wide array of showpieces, including religious artifacts, jewelry made of precious metals and household items among others. 

Little Venice is a magnificent neighborhood, which had retained its beauty all these years. Once inhabited by rich merchants and sailors, the vibrant edifices offer a direct access to the sea. The wooden verandas are still standing proudly,  while most of the buildings’ ground floors now accommodate bars and cafes. The old villas feature magnificent views to the sparkling sea that many world-renowned artists depicted in their artworks.

The Monastery of the Panagia Tourliani is another historic building, definitely worth visitors’ attention. Established in 1580, the monastery lies in Ano Mera village and is a true architectural landmark. It is adorned with unique Florentine wood carvings, featuring an outstanding whitewashed exterior. The vermilion cupolas are still crown the Monastery, offering quite a spectacle. Inside the building, you will find prestigious religious relics of ancient icons. 

The Aegean Maritime Museum features an intriguing library, a vast collection of coins, historical documents, sea maps and antique artifacts among others. The building itself is a magnificent 19th-century edifice.

Among almost three hundreds of religious buildings located in Mykonos, Church of Paraportiani stands out for its architectural charm, that’s the reason the church is a point of interest for the travelers. 

Mykonos is more than a party playground, it just waits for its cultural landmarks to be discovered!
